Boiler Maintenance Checklist

Boiler maintenance is a topic that many homeowners and property owners face on a regular basis. Boilers are responsible for heating water in your home or business, so if you don’t take care of the boiler properly it can lead to all sorts of problems down the road. From oil heating to gas boilers, regular maintenance is vital. It’s important to know how to better maintain your boiler so that it will last longer and continue to work well for you. This article will cover 8 simple tips for taking care of your boiler with some helpful hints from our team at Clarke’s Gas Services.

8 Boiler Maintenance Tips

Boiler Checks

Some of these tips and checks will make sure that your boiler is running well and as it should be. Simple checks can include: checking that the vents and chimneys are clear, checking for leaks or cracks in pipes. You should also look for any signs of rust on metal parts, and inspect the outside unit periodically.

With that said, here are some tips you should carry out on your boiler:

  1. Get an annual service  – This will ensure that everything is running fine.
  2. Bleed the radiators – This relieves any pressure in the radiators and you will need to repressurise your boiler.
  3. Turn the heating on regularly – Even for just 15 minutes every so often will keep all of the parts running smoothly and moving correctly. This will also minimise the chance of a breakdown.
  4. Check the boiler pressure – This should always be between one and two bars, anything below that will result in the boiler needing to be repressurised.
  5. Install a carbon monoxide alarm – This will protect you and your family as it’ll detect if any carbon monoxide was present. This should be installed a meter away from your boiler. Check the alarm regularly.
  6. Avoid blockages – You can do this by making sure there’s no clutter surrounding the boiler. Don’t ever cover a gas boiler or block the air vents.
  7. Balance the radiators – If the radiators that are furthest away from your boiler aren’t getting as warm as the rest, you will need to balance them. This may be a task for a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Our experts also offer Gas Safety certificates.
  8. Trust the professionals – If you’re not confident in what you’re doing, then call an expert. Choose Clarke’s Gas Services and we will take care of everything.
